Dwarf goats are the capital of the rural poor in Nigeria
West African Dwarf goats are variable in coat colour: black, grey, brown, sometimes pied. They have a distinct good-natured character and are therefore often found in petting zoos.
The African Dwarf goat is one of the economically most important goat breeds in 18 West and Central African countries. The animals are mainly kept for meat production and are usually the only capital of the rural population.
Maxl was lucky
Maxl is three years old this year and would have died much too early if his farmer's wife had allowed it.
Somehow, at some point, the vet came to see me. Then everyone looked like this. The farmer's wife said, "Well, that's not possible! - I don't know what was going on. Then a red car came and my farmer's wife and this woman from the red car lured me. With a carrot. I was supposed to go into the van, hm. There was a lot of straw and hay inside. My farmer's wife stroked me between the horns, where I like it sooo much. She looked sad and said that everything would be alright now. Ok. All right.
The Henndorf goats rejoiced loudly
Our animals feel when the animal transporter brings new animals to the farm. When Maxl arrived, he was welcomed with a loud bleating. He came into a separate stable, was examined and meanwhile he romps around with all the goats on the big goat meadow in front of the wild boar enclosure.
Maxl has formed a special friendship with Moritz. Moritz came to Gut Aiderbichl a few years ago with a trauma after his only friend had literally hanged himself in the hay net. Until he was discovered dead, Moritz had not left his side. Moritz was not meant to live alone, and so he was taken in at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
Moritz is important for me. He has lived here for a few years and knows his way around very well. He told me where to find an extra treat. Such a good friend is important. For us animals too.
Maxl can be recognised by his beautiful black-brown-white fur, which shines beautifully. When you call him, the small, black eyes look very attentively in the right direction. As a greeting, he likes to be stroked - preferably between the horns, just like his farmer's wife used to do.
